The Origins of Our School

Madame Soong Ching Ling was a passionate, principled and courageous leader with a lifelong love of children and their education. In 1938 Soong Ching Ling established the China Welfare Institute (CWI), devoting her life to the expansion of high-quality Early Childhood Education in China. She established a nursery for children and later a kindergarten, exploring new methods of preschool education.

She formulated policies that safeguarded women’s and children’s rights and committed herself to promoting world peace.
                  
To honour her leadership and many contributions, she was named Honorary Chairman of the People’s Republic of China.
 
Following her death in 1981, the CWI set up another kindergarten in 1991; larger in scale, with the support of the Shanghai Municipal Government and named it after Soong Ching Ling as a living memorial to her. The name of the kindergarten was inscribed by the former Chairman of the People’s Republic of China: Mr. Jiang Ze Min.

Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten has developed rapidly, we now have 3 campuses which include our Hongmei Campus (est. 1991), Ye Hui Campus (est. 2005) and our  Zhi Ding Campus (est. 2023).

Hong Mei Campus

With its extensive and unique gardens and lawns, Hong Mei campus was constructed in 1994 and is purposefully built for children aged 2-6 years. The kindergarten comprises over 10 hectares of secure garden and playing grounds, our facilities are impressive for Shanghai, and they include:
· Large, modern and well-equipped classrooms with high quality resources. Each classroom includes a dining area and en-suite washroom and toilet facilities
· Large, Montessori classrooms resourced with imported Montessori specialised equipment
· Extensive, grassed areas that are well-equipped for children’s play and sports lessons
· Outdoor continuous provision area
· Outdoor tennis court
· Indoor swimming pool
· Library
· Large construction playroom
· Lego room
· Role playroom
· Creative art room
· Indoor fun dazzle maze
· Gym/hall with ample seating for concerts
· Canteen that provides a hot lunch and two snacks to all pupils each day
· On-site clinic staffed by a qualified doctor on both campuses
Our modern facilities are equipped to the highest standard and regularly updated and monitored for safety

Ye Hui Campus

Our Ye Hui campus was constructed in 2005 and is located 45 minutes from the city centre and 25 minutes from the Hongmei campus currently offering Kindergarten; Reception and KS1 Year One classes in the International Division. Facilities include:
· Large, modern and well-equipped classrooms with high quality resources. Each classroom includes a dining area and en-suite washroom and toilet facilities
· Extensive, grassed areas that are well-equipped for children’s play and sports lessons
· All weather/safety surface play area
· Indoor swimming pool

Zhi Ding Campus

Our Zhi Ding Campus was constructed in 2023 and is located 45 minutes from the city centre and 25 minutes from the Hongmei campus. Our mission is to provide high-quality education and caring to children aged 2-3. The International Division is a specially designed facility that provides a secure, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive and develop to their full potential Located in an exciting, brand new space that champions learning through play, we promote a nature-inspired setting, one that inspires learning, nurtures all-round development and feels like home.

Our state of the art learning environment offers a wide range of facilities which include specially designed outdoor areas, gym, library, sensory room, soft play area, role playroom, construction areas, art room, music room and so much more! Our classrooms also offer calm, inviting spaces, allowing children to learn in a comfortable and nurturing environment.

Using the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) Framework, we have designed a curriculum that will give you the comfort of knowing that your child will be having fun as they develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.

We provide an early childhood education that enables children to learn social interaction skills with children of their own age as well as with adults. We understand the importance of the early childhood phase and provide them with challenging cognitive activities as well as self-control and empathy. We offer a unique and creative approach to Early Years’ learning, drawing on the natural curiosity of childhood and the very best of Early Years’ principles.

Our teachers are dedicated, compassionate, and creative. They prioritise each child's well-being and foster a love for learning. Our teachers know the ways in which to handle young minds with delicacy, therefore enabling our children to develop skills in all areas of the curriculum with confidence. At Zhi Ding campus, our children are at the heart of everything that we do.
